Bath Time With Gus-Gus

Well, I made sure to bring the camera in to bath time tonight. So here you go, a Gus-Gus licking a baby boy's back. Ah the wonders of the universe that a puppy loves water so much as to lick it off a baby's back...

This was the best picture of the kids I could get.

Friday Favorite: The Cherry Chomper

My sister first introduced me to the Cherry Chomper. Oh the joy! Eating cherries without having to de-seed them by hand?!?! It was worth the $10. I'm from The Cherry Capital of The World. Or so they boast. Who knows if there's another town out there thinking they are the top draw when it comes to cherries and all the festivities it entails. Traverse City, Michigan puts on a pretty good front if they are not, in fact, the cherry capital. Every year they have the Cherry Festival, they have Cherry Capital Ford, and a few stores that sell cherry related items for the fudgies- er, I mean tourists. If you're ever in Northern Michigan, Traverse City is an AWESOME place to check out. I have a thought marinating of adding a 'Where to Go in TC' link list to my blog. We'll see how much time I have to do that... :)

On a side note, Genny has been inserting the letter 'L' into most of her words. When asking for more cherries this morning, she was saying, "More cherlllies?!" Baby Glenn was a fan of the cherries too!

Funny Fact

Funny Fact: When you splash water on the baby's back, Gus-Gus will lick it off. I wasn't able to get a picture of this (for fear that the baby would drown while I was grabbing the camera) but here are a few pictures of the kids and Gus-Gus. And yes, Thomas, the kids take baths together sometimes. I love you baby. *kiss*

MckMama’s Beer Bread

Question to any bakers/cooks out there: Does baking something with caffeine in it remove the caffeine from it?

My recent stay with my sister brought about a few changes in me (I'm currently keeping my kitchen and dining table fairly spotless as opposed to the occasional spotlessness). One of which is wanting to bake more. My sister's house was always smelling of homemade bread, muffins, or cookies and it got me to thinking that I could probably do some of those things too. My first recipe I'm tackling is one she got from McMama, another blog she follows. It's a beer bread recipe, but my sister always uses 7-Up. (my nephew asks if he can have some since he thinks it's 7 and up bread -like the age-)

When I saw what pop I had, I called my sister to ask the caffeine question posed at the beginning of this blog. Neither she or my mother knew the answer to the question, so we decided it was best not to risk it. Orange pop it is!

I'm not sure if you can tell, but the bread has an orange tint to it. I took a picture with and with out the flash so as to show the color. We'll see if it translates.

Home

After almost six weeks staying with my sister in my home state of Michigan, we're home. The flight to Michigan was a dream. Happy baby Glenn hung out in my lap, slept in the moby and cooed at everyone. Genny was obsessed with her new movie Tinkerbell, and the snacks and meal we purchased.

The ride home was different. No, try opposite. I won't go into detail, but I would like to apologise to the people who took the 11am flight from Chicago to San Diego on January 4th. I am truly sorry.

Onwards!

Since coming home we've:

Contracted a nasty post-nasal drip cold (Glenn and I)
Been severely jet-lagged (all of us)
Gotten two straight hours of sleep total (moi, and that was last night)
Gone to two grocery stores
Made several 'batches' of baby food with the new [to me] baby food steamer and processor
Received all boxes from Michigan with our stuff
Killed two mice (this was the first priority when we got home)

The worst thing about being gone for six weeks (other than the mice) was trying to get Glenn on a good sleeping schedule. Because we were in the basement of my sister's house, he was in the same room as me which is not conducive to trying to get a baby to sleep through the night on their own.

With the marriage of our cold and jet-lag, Glenn has been up every half-hour to hour all night. Last night he gave me a break between 11pm and 1am. My husband laughed at me when I told him that I think the two straight hours rejuvenated me. But it did.

Imagine my surprise when I put Glenn down for a nap this morning and he slept for 1.5 hours. One word: Elation. I was able to get so much done! Silly me thought maybe he'd do it twice in a row. Silly, silly Kari. He did sleep for a half hour, but then needed to sleep-nurse to finish off the nap. Oh well, we're off to a good start!

Nap time started off nice with Genny watching Einsteins in her room

And Glenn sleeping in his crib

I started working on a project from a book Thomas got me for Christmas (good job hubby, I love it!)

But ended with an unproductive viewing of Grey's Anatomy via Hulu.

Random: Genny found a 12 month Dora jumper today and wanted to put it on. She was so sad over not fitting in it that I told her she should wear it as pants. We put her legs in the sleeves and tucked the hem of the dress in her diaper.

Collage for Thomas

Since Thomas is deployed, this is the only way he gets to see pictures of the kids. So here is a collage for him. Here you go babe!

Walking With A Purpose

If you've read my blog in the past month you know that I am trying to help my friends Emily and Dan White raise money to pay off the lawyer fees they incurred from fighting for custody of Dan's son Dylan. They lost and are unable to continue the fight until they pay off the $20,000 debt. I decided to walk a 5K hoping to get my friends who didn't know Dan and Emily to donate. I counted in my head the donations that I knew I had helped out, and figured I helped raise about $350.

My plan now is to put together a 5K run/walk in Oceanside which will be available for other people to participate in. The idea is still forming in my head, but if I can get a good price on t-shirts, then the majority of the money charged for the 5K will go to Dan and Emily. I'm also in talks with Emily about a 5K being held in Casper, WY (where they live) on the same day. That way they could get participants as well. In the end I just want to help them get that 20K paid off so they can start fighting for Dan's son again. He's in such a terrible situation, and children don't need to be scared in their own home.

The walk was pretty boring, but it gave me time to think and pray about Dylan, Dan and Emily.

It was WINDY!!!

But not that bad! :)

That 5K really took it out of me...

Just kidding!
