Today we:

~Steam cleaned the master bedroom carpet after a certain two year old let some muddy puppies (three) into the house
~Went to Sunset Park for the first time (in San Marcos)
~Saw a pink and purple caterpillar
~Ran around in the spray grounds for about an hour (Genny)
~Ate a sock (Glenn)
~Climbed a snake (all of us!)
~Added one more owie to our right knee (Genny)

After a tough morning that involved some screaming (me) I was so happy to have somewhere to be that Genny would be entertained and Glenn and I could be along for the ride. The spray grounds was all she could talk about as soon as she saw them, and after a quick lunch, she got to play for a long, long time. I wanted us to say for as long as we could, so we got there at about 11am and left at about 2pm. Then we hit up Home Depot for some mini blinds (that now seem a bit too large, but we'll have to see once they're out of the package) and a shelf for Glenn's room. I'm debating on whether or not to ask neighbor men to help me with the two HD items, I'm sure I could do it myself, but I'm not sure it would look right. I'll see if anyone offers and take it from there.

Can you find the caterpillar? (hint- it's on the black rim)

??

Is anyone even reading these blogs? I know my husband, Thomas is. And my sister and mom from time to time. Anyone else? Post a comment and let me know if anyone's out there...

Pool party in November??

Apparently global warming is beginning to take effect, because August had us wearing jeans and November has us cooling off in the pool.

And yes, I realize that Genny didn't have a high likelihood of drowning, but couldn't find her dive skin, so it was either this or her swim undies with no shirt(a thing a Derm Tech would never do). Once again, I am so very happy that we have a usable fenced in front yard!

Baby Glenn is Tired...

Horseback Riding

I had floated the idea of horseback riding to my meetup group a while back. Everyone seemed to like the idea, but in the end, only Marcy (with her sons) and I were available. So we headed off to Camp Pendleton's STEPP Stables for our two and a half year olds to go on a 'pony' ride. Now I put quotes around the word pony because these were actually horses. In the end, it makes sense that Genny and the other little boy wouldn't ride them, they were pretty big. Petting, kissing and squeeling with delight, yes. Riding, no. On the other hand, one of the babies was more than happy to ride the horse: Glenn. Yes, the six month old baby was excited and curious about the horse that the two and a half year old wouldn't sit on. *sigh* Maybe after we get back from Michigan...

A 'Fresh' Coat of Paint

When Thomas told me he'd be deploying for over 200 days, I thought of a few other things first, but my mind also wandered to home improvement. When we moved in, the whole inside of the house had been freshly painted in a nice tan. We were psyched because that meant we didn't have to paint right away. We could take our time and decide which rooms should be which colors as the years came and went. Genny and Glenn have both used the same room as the nursery. We have nice gender neutral bedding handed down to us from Thomas's mother, so there wasn't too much of the theme we picked for each child present. (not that we mind, since free bedding and furniture is, well, free bedding and furniture) When we found out we were pregnant with Glenn, we moved Genny into the room next door. I loved picking out her bedding, wall paint and decor elements. But we left the nursery as is, because, as stated prior, it was gender neutral.

I decided that as a good way to help the time go by, I would paint Glenn's room, giving him a truly boy's room and perhaps some more of his motorcycle and classic cars theme added in. I knew there was such a thing as low or no VOC paint, so I went to Home Depot to see what they had in the low/no VOC colors. Not as many as the other forms of paint, but still a good variety. I ended up choosing Healing Water with a possible accent wall of Organic Garden. I had more than enough paint to do the whole room in blue, but here is the nice grey I had picked out.

There are a few things I learned painting my first room...

1) Blue painter's tape will take off the top [white] layer of unpainted drywall.

2) When you get paint on the blue painter's tape it becomes heavy and harder to remove.

3) Don't skimp on the painter's tape- it's thick for a reason and that reason is first time painters like me.

In the end it's a beautiful color for a happy boy.

Good Morning

Good morning Baby [Thomas].
